    On a less technical note,

Mi ma is commonly used when referring to a plain old ordinary password, and mi mi is more like the one uses to authenticate to a website for resetting a password.

Most people also just say daili and skip the fuwuqi part :-)

Here’s a few more practical computing words that I didn’t see on the list

    wang lu network
    wang zhan website
    wang you web user
wang shang (network up, aka online)
    wang zhi URL
Q kong jian QQ space (ala myspace)
    shang chuan upload
    xia zai to download
    an zhuang to install
    deng lu log in (dialectical)
    deng chu log out (dialectical)
    xin yong ka credit card
    yin hang ka bank card
    yin hang hao bank account
pian zi someone who deceives or tricks you
    ruan jian software
    dian nao computer
ji suan ji computer (dialectically different)
    tu pian screenshot
geng xin to upgrade or patch (software)
jin zhi to ban, block or prohibit access
ju bao to report (a crime)
lian jie a link (on a web page)
chong xin zhuang to reinstall (windows)
    an quan de safe/secure

Hey how do you say “avatar” in chinese? :)

  4. Alexon 29 Apr 2008 at 4:13 pm

    avatar = 具体化 or 具體化

not sure how to pronounce it

  5. Ericaon 07 May 2008 at 4:38 am

Ok i found 具体化 ju4ti1hua4= avatar.

Btw, I found i mistake: “home page” is 主页 zhu3ye4 not the similar-sounding 竹叶 ^-^
