It is pretty dumb when people are scared of words. But, such things do not last.

Change is coming to China soon and is already in the works. Even their own people in the "status quo" (to use a phrase)... know what is up.

As a good friend from there told me once, what they have now is not at all unlike what they had under the old system... corrupt system... and this is where a lot of the best legends come from, the "martial way" stories... of heroes fighting corrupt nepotism and such.

Even the villains can become heroes though.

They can just be blind at first to what side they are on.

My two cents. Food for thought.

America and China have to work together for the good of both... we have already been through the whole "cold war" thing with Russia... and don't need to repeat the same mistakes again... even if we are dancing to that old tune a bit right now.

Freedom is in the heart and does come through words.

I think the point you made her about the kids is very important
one......kids have their own language. If you hang out with chinese kids they create in the moment and use it immediately on line. It's sometimes a mix of musik lyrics, local words and video games. But expresses everything under the radar of those internet police.

There was a similar list released by a Chinese hacker when Zhao Ziyang died.

The list showed that the characters for Zhao Ziyang were being filtered (still filtered I see) and the kids came up with a pretty cool solution.

They just used different characters that had the same sounds as Zhao Ziyang to bypass the filter list.

Oh yeah, I really don't want to know the definition of "milk delivery." Yuck? I'm pretty sure yuck.

@Heike,

This list of words doesn't represent keywords that are filtered in search results. The keywords in the list will cause a blog post hosted on Baidu to go to review by one of 11 censors whose names and performance scores are also part of the wikileaks files.

So we won't get banned just for having this list of words but maybe for other reasons...

I kind of thought being GFW'd gave TDV a bit of street cred. Maybe this post will get us banned again. I don't know if you've been checking GA lately, but we've been getting a lot of visits from all over the PRC. And they're not hitting our adsense links for ethical hacker training for some reason...

So, is it pretty much safe to say that we won't be getting indexed in China anymore? :)

I found it interesting that Chinese leaders had their own category......Lou Gan's brother's son was living in NY. Flushing to be more precise, when by his apartment more than once...though never went in. Had the chance, just thought the timing was all wrong. Great story for a website

@Eastwood,

An interesting question. The files don't seem to have any obvious connection to Baidu. The list seems pretty similar to what everyone knows about the type of things that get filtered in Baidu searches. I noticed that "Charter 08" isn't present in the list and it is clearly filtered on Baidu. Maybe the files pre-date the Charter 08 movement.

I wonder if this source can be verified?
