Great work guys! I blogged about your podcast:

  2. jumperon 26 Jul 2008 at 9:56 pm

Thanks a lot! We had a lot of fun putting it together and we’re looking forward to doing more.

Once again, thank you so much for giving us a plug. For those of you who don’t know, Richard was the first person who put this blog on the radar screen. Without his endorsement, probably only me and my mom would read it.

Richard has been a great friend and mentor to us for a long time and if for some reason you have been on a far away planet…Taosecurity is here

I can assure you there are more people reading your blog then you might think … I for example recommended your blog to a couple of security colleagues in Belgium (although we’re all using RSS readers).

Just wanted to say thanks and appreciate your work !

We appreciate all recs and certainly your support! Great to have people drop us lines of encouragement.

I listened as well, very good stuff. Keep up the good work.

Thanks CG! As Jumper so aptly put it, “I think we sound like a couple of tools but that’s entertaining too.” :)

  8. [...] Interesting Podcast on Chinese Hackers – “The Dark Visitor #1″… …is here. [...]

I didn’t get to post any comments on your first podcast. It was great to hear your voice and Jumoer’s . You both have two different personalites that could really compliment each other well and create a nice ongoing diaolgue for your listening audience. Jumper’s kinda kool techy guy and you have a strong/confident
edge with military style of speaking. Makes for an interesting dynamic exchange. I learned alot from your podcast. I like many today prefer their news on line and to hear it or see and hear it is my prefered method.
When I firsted visted your site was like going to college, kinda real academic setting. I know it’s your hobby and you only have so much time but if your future schedule allows a format like Myspace TV or youtube you guys a DarkVistor would be hands down the next Jay Leno of the hacker world.
I would make the podcast shorter, divide into subjects/content. I listened to it a couple times. Short sound bites go far in the blog world. Plus you get an handle on you audience preference from their response. They have to respond to the entire podcast vs a section or sections. A marrigae between what you feels needs to be presented and what your views/listeners would like to hear is a challenge and interesting chance to inform the public.
I liked the discussion on the topic that got the most hits, the pix of the Hacker cafe. Maybe you could have a weekly picture posted off to the side like that one that expresses visually china’s relaxed and open ways to hackers. It could be a small box on the side margins. A great hook to get viewers involved with your content. I like the idea of talking about the translation software of chinese language. It is funny stuff, you could easily put a box to the side of your website titled “Lost in Translation” and have chinese characters on top and below the translation edition from the software…make people laugh, kinda the light hearted side to a serious on going issue. Lke you did on your job that you put up one a day or week. Like the chinese music wish you you had links to the songs off to the side…
I talk to much coz I love your site and looked for to the next poccast.
ps. If it was in Chinese I bet people like those at
    would carry/broadcast them…
just a thought..I know many that work for Sound of Hope they are always looking for material even english but your chinese is sooo good, mainlanders even in the jing would love your show

All you need now is an RSS feed for your podcasts so I can load it in Rhythmbox!

  11. Heikeon 27 Jul 2008 at 3:54 pm

    GaoYuLong and bmonty,

These are all great suggestions and we will certainly try our best to implement the ones we can. When I say “we,” I really mean Jumper. He gets full credit for putting this together. I was more of a hindrance than a help I’m afraid.

GaoYuLong, you make a great point about sound bites being better. Poor Jumper had to edit quite a bit of my inane ramblings. I’m sure there were times when he just wanted to say, “Would you just shut up!”

Thanks again for the suggestions, greatly appreciated!

    Also did my part

You might also make it findable in iTunes. Really easy to upload to our ipods. With the RSS feed, we could add it manually.

Keep up the good work !!!

Great podcast guys, I visit your site daily, enjoyed it quite a bit, keep up the great work. I was in a similar field as Heike and have been to the Love Institute myself, while working for “Big Brother”. I’m now retired as well but I can’t resist keeping in the loop.

Hard to stay away isn’t it? Fond memories of time on the hill at DLI and Monterey below. There was a little place right outside DLI that had these great sandwiches called Compagnos. Man those things were huge.

I think I have everything requested. I have a regular RSS, direct download, a link for iTunes downloads and I submitted it to ITMS for listing.

It all seems to work for me but let me know if you encounter any problems. Thanks a lot for your support and input.

It works great in ITMS !!!

    Hey guys,

I love the blog and really enjoyed the PodCast. I work in infosec and 我学习中文 so I’m sure you know I find your site 很有意思。

Question though, What was the theme song, and is it free/shareable? I kind of liked it :P

  19. Heikeon 04 Aug 2008 at 9:39 pm

Glad to have you reading the blog! About the song, it was composed by Wan Tao, the leader of China Eagle (very large hacker group). Wan enjoys interviews, the camera and performing. Here is the song with characters and xlation.

    Power of the Night
Lyrics: By China Eagle Union’s LiZi

“We are flying against the wind in the night. We are the China Eagles of the night. We use our black night eyes to greet the approaching light. We are flying freely through the net. We are the China Eagles of the net. We use the lonely nighttime of the net to greet the approaching daybreak. Feel the power of the night. Use my black eyes. The hot-blood slowly thickens in the night. Searching for hope in the middle of the night. We are the China Eagles. We want to be the elite of China. It doesn’t matter how hard the enemy’s shield is, we want him to know our sharpness. We are the China Eagles. We want to be the elite of the nation. All the just people have given us strength and courage. We can fight forever and never rest.”

For the next podcast, Heike will sing the theme song in both English and Chinese.

I will play the guitar. Sorry Eastwood, there isn’t a saxophone part in this song.
