Huawei and 3Com had a joint venture for a long time until 3Com bought its share back. I think the quidway line of equipment came from that venture. I personally don’t know of any enterprises using 3Com gear. The thing that concerns the paranoid is the access that Huawei would have to Tippingpoint, a 3com subsidiary who makes IPS appliances that are used at a five-sided building in DC. Some people are saying that any damage would already have been done during the joint venture.

So now there may be a joint venture between Symantec and Huawei to market enterprise backup software in Asia. Will this give Huawei souce code access to Symantec products (even for localization)? Maybe not but I think it might be enough to raise questions.

Remember when Checkpoint (Israel) attempted to acquire Sourcefire? Didn’t happen. Personally, I think I’d rather have the Israelis stealing our secrets than the 中国人。 Then again, what the heck do I know? I should be studying 中文。
